Overview:

Devil’s Advocate is a persuasive speaking competition where participants must defend unconventional, controversial, or seemingly illogical viewpoints. The event tests critical thinking, creativity, humor, and the ability to construct convincing arguments for positions participants may not personally agree with.
Participant Structure:

The event is open to individual participants.
Each participant competes independently.
Participants must be ready to argue any assigned viewpoint, regardless of personal beliefs.
Event Format:

Topic Allocation: Participants will receive a controversial or unconventional topic on the spot.
Preparation Time: Each participant will receive 3–5 minutes to prepare their arguments.
Speaking Round: Participants must defend the assigned viewpoint for 2–3 minutes.
Rebuttal / Question Round: Judges or audience members may ask 1–2 questions challenging the argument. Participants must respond logically and persuasively.
Total time per participant: Approximately 5–7 minutes.
Venue and Topic Nature:

The event may be conducted in courtyard, ground, or cafeteria spaces depending on availability.
Topics will be revealed on the spot and may include humorous, philosophical, or paradoxical statements.
Example Topics:
Procrastination improves productivity.
Failure should be celebrated more than success.
Being lazy can be a sign of intelligence.
Rules and Guidelines:

Participants must defend the assigned viewpoint even if it contradicts their personal opinion.
Use of offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate language is strictly prohibited.
Participants may use humor, storytelling, logic, or examples to strengthen arguments.
Mobile phones or notes are not allowed while speaking.
Exceeding the time limit may lead to point deductions.
Judging Criteria:

Argument Strength – Logical structure and clarity of reasoning.
Creativity – Originality in defending unconventional viewpoints.
Persuasiveness – Ability to engage and convince the audience.
Confidence & Delivery – Voice modulation, body language, and stage presence.
Handling Questions – Ability to respond quickly and effectively during rebuttal.
