The Twilight Withins
Table of Contents
(1) is an engulfment of darkness embedded within itself, which makes it look weak and lethargic. Revulsion by others is common for him. Possible cause — serenity. But that doesn’t signify that he is not good for the world. His benevolent nature is a projection of his internal kindness. Having all the required physical traits makes him special, but the only thing preventing him from engaging with the world is his own fear — fear which condemns him from doing any social activity. He has done his best but is still unable to breach his mindset, as his own mind has taken control over him.
(2), on the other hand, is a positive soul filled with enthusiasm. Her charisma makes her idiosyncratic — a much more socialized soul, utilizing all of her time happily, living her life peacefully as if it’s the end phase of her life. This soul is light; shining is her trait, and once she moves, she never turns back.
(1) believes in making desireful relations and a life of perfection. He has seen many heartbroken phases in his life, including the death of loved ones, which makes his soul even darker. The darkness somehow keeps increasing gradually in his case, making his temperament worse.
(2) and (1) know each other, though their clashing attributes of darkness and light keep them apart. As it is known, light and dark cannot exist together. Their relations are good — they are friends, but not with benefits. They like each other’s company but never share it due to their nature. After spending time near him, (2) ignites a light in the center of his dark, non-penetrable soul. This attraction increases as time passes. The shared path of these souls becomes tempestuous — from the side of (2), not knowing what’s inside (1), seeming one-sided. But (2) will never share her feelings until (1) shows some sign — signs that never come.
Now the feeling intensifies. The only thing preventing her from getting close to (1) is the fear that his bold darkness will end her shining light. The feeling of excessive care and thinking about others’ comfort hurts you more than it heals someone. Light’s nature makes her foster fun with others, mostly searching for great moments of happiness. They both are relatable in one aspect — both have tragic pasts. But (2) believes in focusing on her happiness to avoid her past’s invasion from ruining her present, conserving her negative sides. (1), on the other hand, believes that carrying his past is a new way of living that he must accept, thus driven by his grief deeper into himself.
They both study at the same university. One day, (2) is astonished by the glance of (1), gradually darkening every day. She feels it’s better to know about him, so she tries getting closer — but it starts affecting her, hurting her deeply. This persuades her to step back. (1) follows the same routine as always — not socializing much, returning home with some undesirement. Listening to the symphony “Jacob and the Stone” consoles him somehow. He has some feelings for (2) too, which start to rise as time passes. They begin thinking about each other, but it doesn’t matter — they can’t get close. The light’s nature depends on her kindness, dwelling into (1)’s thoughts. This detachment turns into a crazy bond of love — though they never talk to each other, they keep thinking of each other. (1) knows his darkness could affect others, especially light, in the crowd of souls.
But things start getting worse. The darkness within (1) increases insanely, beyond his ability to balance it. His own negative side pushes him toward his deathbed. Light’s traits — goodness, clarity, and truth — increase significantly as her transparency toward (1) grows. She wants to be a part of him, so she starts looking for him day and night. Her glorifying nature starts resembling her true essence, but as the darkness grows with fear and mystery, (1) loses his good side, seeking only his end.
When (2) finally finds him, deprived and lost in his negative state, she feels connected to him by something deeper. When (1) sees her, he knows it’s dangerous for her to come near, so he says, “I want to end myself, not you. So get away from me. I loved you. I adore you. Please, get away from me.”
(2) replies, tears streaming down her face, “I am not ending you. I loved you. I adore you. I wanted to be a part of you, so I am ending myself, not you.”
Without thinking about herself, she jumps onto him, her saudade overwhelming her since the day she began thinking of him. Now it’s done — they are together, hugging tightly, their love connected by their souls.
Now the question arises — what will happen to them? It’s the same as what happens when light meets darkness: total balance. When they hugged each other, their fusion gave birth to a gray zone where both existed peacefully — a dimly lit peace, a dawn, a sense of twilight.
That was the end. The Twilight Withins.
